Mellor: "Aiming To Finish On A High"

Kelvin aiming to spoil party for promotion chasing sides

Kelvin Mellor says that testing yourself against the best teams in npower League One is the perfect way to end the season. Crewe have a difficult run-in of fixtures and will be looking to bounce back against Swindon following home defeats to Brentford and Doncaster Rovers.

Mellor, who was named as the supporters’ Young Player of the Season on Saturday evening, is aiming to help the club finish the season on a high.

Kelvin told Crewe Alex Player: “We have had a lot of fixtures in April but you just have to get on with it and take in your stride. I feel okay and the toe is a lot better.

“I wouldn’t have got through the game at Wembley without the injection but it is a lot better now. We still have some top clubs to play and that is what you want as a player. That is what you look forward to and we will be looking to get as many points as we can.

“There are four games left. They are all tough games but ones to test yourself. We don’t want the season to fizzle out and we want to do the best we can and spoil a few parties by getting a good result.

“We want to keep going and finish as high as we can. We have had a decent season but we could do better and that is something we will aim to put right next season. The manager is on to us to make sure we become more consistent.”

And on the honour of winning his award, Kelvin said: “It was a great honour to be named Young Player of the Season by the supporters. It is a reward for all the hard work and it must mean that I’ve done something right.

“The average age isn’t that high here and there are a lot of good young players in our squad, so to win the award was a tremendous boost for me.”
