Steve Davis will have to assess numbers before deciding on his starting team
Steve Davis will have to check on his walking wounded before deciding on his starting XI and formation for Saturday’s home clash with promotion hopefuls Doncaster Rovers. Both clubs will be looking to bounce back from mid-week defeats with Brian Flynn’s side losing 2-0 to Carlisle United and Crewe slipping up at home to Brentford.
The Alex boss has Mark Ellis (ankle) and Luke Murphy (groin) struggling to be fit and his goalkeeper Steve Phillips (dead leg) ruled out. Alan Martin, who replaced Phillips on Wednesday night, will start.
Crewe are definitely without top scorer Mathias Pogba (torn thigh) and Gregor Robertson (Achilles) and Abdul Osman (two-match suspension)
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We have a few walking wounded at the moment and the physio room looks like a Hospital ward at the moment!
“We have a few struggling a bit and they are beginning to feel the toughness of the season but some of them will dig in and play through the pain barrier. They will be determined to do that and play their part. Others will come in and get a chance.
“We will have to assess who we have available and then decide on the starting line-up and the way we are going to play. We have had the luxury of playing a few systems this season, so they can adapt.”
