Davis To Check On Injury Concerns

9 April 2013

Alex boss will check on the fitness of his squad before making Bees selection

who made a match winning return against Southend at Wembley. Steve Davis will assess his squad after Sunday’s victory in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final before he decides on his starting XI for tomorrow’s night clash with promotion hopefuls Brentford. Davis will have to wait on the fitness of Kelvin Mellor (toe), Mark Ellis (ankle) and Luke Murphy,

Murphy had missed the club’s last three matches after aggravating his groin against the MK Dons.

Leading scorer Mathias Pogba is out for the season with a torn thigh but Brad Inman is okay despite being withdrawn in the second half on Sunday. The boss will make today a recovery day again, especially as certain members of his Wembley squad featured in club’s Under-21 fixture at Barnsley. The likes of Ryan Colclough, George Ray and Ollie Turton all played in the 2-1 defeat.

Steve told crewealex.net: “The players did a fantastic job but we cannot let the occasion affect them too much. We still have an outside chance of making the play-offs and there will be no easing off from us. There is still an opportunity there for us and we have to be fair to ourselves and the supporters to give it our best.

“I will have to look at how they are. We will have another recovery day today and assess one or two of them. Murph was fatigued because he hasn’t played in the last three games. We won’t be doing too much with them.

“Kelvin had to have an injection in his toe before the game and at half-time and he played with the pain. He put himself on the line for the team and his toe is very sore and swollen. Mark Ellis also got a whack on his ankle, so we will have to see how he is. He won’t have to train today, as long as he is fit for tomorrow.

“Brad was just tired and not injured. We have a good squad here and if one or two don’t make it then we have quality players coming in to take their place.”
