We Need To Be Better Over 90

Davis wants his players to show consistent levels over 90 minutes

Steve Davis has called on his players to sustain their performances over 90 minutes after seeing his Crewe Alexandra side draw their fourth successive match against Leyton Orient on Saturday. Matt Tootle gave the Railwaymen the perfect start with a wonderful finish after just 75 seconds but Russell Slade’s O’s hit back 20 minutes through Martin Rowlands and they enjoyed a good spell of possession and pressure in the opening exchanges of the second half.

The Crewe Alexandra boss told crewealex.net: “I was pleased with the first half performance but as usual we didn’t take enough of our chances. That has been the case in recent weeks.

“We came in at half-time and to be honest I was just hoping for more of the same but for whatever reason we couldn’t keep that going. We didn’t sustain the performance and we need to do better than that. We have to play well for 90 minutes and make our chances count.”

The Alex boss has also asked for patient from some sections of the home crowd after they projected their frustration at some of the younger players in the crowd.

“I haven’t heard that before since I was appointed and I was a bit surprised and shocked with what I heard.

“There were some really young players out there playing their first games for the club and trying to do their best for Crewe.

“All I would ask the fans for is a bit of patience. They know what we are trying to do here by giving our younger players chance and they need the supporters behind them because they will make mistakes and bad decision because they haven’t got the experience yet.”
