Warner Trains With Us

13 September 2012

Tony Warner's experience rubs off our goalkeepers

The former Liverpool, Hull, Tranmere and Fulham goalkeeper Tony Warner, 38, is currently training with the club and although there is no chance of him earning a contract at Gresty Road because of our goalkeeping situation, Steve Davis says he would recommend the experienced goalkeeper to clubs after watching him train.

Davis is quite content with his own goalkeepers, with Alan Martin his current number one, the experienced Steve Phillips returning from a knee operation and youngster Ben Garratt representing England at youth level.

Warner has recently returned from a spell in Australia and called Davis to see if he could continue his fitness levels with us.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Tonyhas just come back from Australia and wanted somewhere to train. He knows we haven't got anything for him here, but he is happy to come here and keep fit while he finds a club.

“We wanted to help him, he has vast experience and that can only rub off on our own goalkeepers. He is 38, fit, strong, big and has great experience I'd recommend him to clubs. He's good to have around.”
