Tootle to replace Aneke in midfield role
Matt Tootle is set to start his first game of the season at Carlisle United tomorrow evening following Chuks Aneke red card at Stevenage. Tootle replaced AJ Leitch-Smith in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at the Lamex Stadium, as Crewe tired to hold on to a lead with ten men. With Aneke now facing a three-match ban, Tootle will get an opportunity to stake his claim for a regular place.
Tootle who played in the play-offs at Wembley in midfield will get another chance in that position tomorrow night.
Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “We are short of one or two in midfield and up front but this will enable us to play Toots in there at Carlisle.
“He knows he has to be patient and he has taken it well. He has got on with it and appreciates that those going in have done well. He is an important member of the squad and now he has a chance to stake his claim.
“What he has to do is go into the side and do as equally as well for the team.”
