Young winger pushes his claim at first-team level
Steve Davis says he has been monitoring Ryan Colclough’s progress since watching him perform for the Under-18s a couple of seasons ago. His rapid rise through the Academy ranks has seen him catch the eye in the newly formed Under-21 league and that resulted in a recent promotion to the first-team training. His form saw him named on the substitutes bench for our 2-2 draw with Stevenage at the weekend and he has been handed the number 27 shirt in our first-team squad.
The Staffordshire-based Colclough, 17, is now hoping to make his first-team bow this season at some point.
Steve has been impressed with the club’s latest emerging youngster: “Ryan caught the eye in pre-season and in the Under 21 games he has improved. We have involved him in the first team training in the last month and he has stepped up again.
“His performances warranted that. He has scored goals and created chances, he works hard and will track back for the team. There is a real maturity to his game and he is yet to turn 18.
“He can get those interceptions like Nick (Powell) could and creates opportunities.
He added: ”It is early days, but he has talent and he is responding well.”
