Steve On Murph's Deal

Alex boss delighted to see his skipper sign

Crewe boss Steve Davis has expressed his delight after seeing captain Luke Murphy agree a new two-year deal with the club. The Alex midfielder put pen-to-paper on a new deal yesterday, which will keep him with the club until the summer of 2014.

Davis admits it is a welcome relief to see his skipper commit his future to the club, and is now looking to see the 22-year-old continue to build on his impressive form over the last few months.

The Alex boss told Crewe Alex Player: “Murph is a good lad and I am really pleased that he has signed an extension to his deal. He is going to a main cog for our midfield for us now and it is important to keep those players in your squad for the future of the club.

“I’d like to see him adding more goals to his game now. I’d also like to see him taking on the responsibility for the whole team. He can influence other players around. He knows he is a decent player, and he doesn’t need me to tell him that, he just needs to be that influential player now.”
