Players Responded

6 September 2012

Boss pleased that players took Westy loss in their stride

Steve Davis wants his side to build on their success over Coventry City with another positive home result against Tranmere Rovers this weekend. Ronnie Moore’s side top the table and arrive in South Cheshire unbeaten in the league following three wins and a draw at Shrewsbury.

The Alex boss expects another tough game but says his players responded superbly to record a 1-0 win over the Sky Blues last weekend and that they should not fear anyone.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It was very nice to get the three points and play well in front of the home supporters. I was pleased with the performance because the players responded after a 5-1 drubbing at Brentford, a defeat at West Ham and then losing Ash (Westwood) the day before the game.

“You don’t know how that would affect the players but fair play to them all they responded and put in a really good performance. We defended solidly, kept their efforts at our goal to a minimum and created chances, especially in the first half when I thought we played some really good football.

“It was a great result but we have to quickly move on. We are taking it one game at a time and Tranmere will arrive on Saturday with a lot of confidence and rightly so because they are the in-form team in our division.”
