Mellor Relishes Test

20 September 2012

Youngster pleased he stayed and fought for his place

Kelvin Mellor has told the club’s official web-site says he is relishing the chance to test himself at League One level after rejecting the chance to join Championship side Derby county in the summer. Mellor rejected the advances of Nigel Clough’s Rams to sign a new two-year deal at Gresty Road and commit his future to us.

Now after overcoming ankle surgery in the summer, Mellor is determined to retain his place under threat from the likes of Matt Tootle.

Mellor told Crewe Alex Player this week: “It is more difficult at this level but we are enjoying the challenge of playing in the higher league against better players and better teams. It is tough but we are showing that we are equipped to do our best against them.

“It has been a good experience and it is my aim just to stay in the team because there are good players here not getting in.

“All I can do is make sure that I do the best I can and do my job to the best of my ability to help the team. We just have to keep going and work hard to make sure we pick up points.”
