Decision To Be Made On Aneke

Boss says he will talk to Arsenal about Chuks loan extension following red card

Steve Davis has hinted that he may look to extend the loan of Chuks Aneke once his current deal runs out. Davis will contact his former Stoke City team-mate Steve Bould at Arsenal to discuss the merits of Aneke remaining at Crewe Alexandra once he has served his three-match suspension following the red card he received for his two-footed lunge on Anthony Grant in Saturdays’ 2-2 draw with Stevenage.

October.ndAneke,19, will only be available for the club’s home game against Oldham Athletic on 2

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I didn’t think it was a malicious tackle from Chuks but it was a bit clumsy and maybe there was a bit of frustration in there because he has not played too many games. He was very down afterwards and he has to learn from it quickly.

“It was the same with Nick (Powell) last season when he lunged into a tackle at Shrewsbury. He came back and learnt his lesson. We are now without Chuks for three games and it is disappointing because we are short of midfield players. It is also disappointing for Chuks because he wanted to come here and show everyone the ability he has.

“He wants to play and we will discuss about extending his loan or not when the time comes. We haven’t made a decision yet and I will contact Steve Bould at Arsenal and discuss things. He would have seen the challenge and know that he isn’t that sort of player.

“Chuks has ability and it is a shame that he hasn’t been able to have the impact he would have wanted because of his three-match suspension.”
