Davis Only To Be Centre-Half

4 September 2012

Harry only to be considered as a central defender

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he will only be considering Harry Davis for a central defensive role after using him as full-back for much of last season. Davis has recently formed a partnership with Mark Ellis in the heart of the Crewe defence and the Alex boss has stated that it his three senior centre-halves will have to battle it out for the two places.

After a recent stomach bug, Adam Dugdale lost his place at West Ham and Davis kept faith with the new partnership for the visit of Coventry.

Davis told the club’s official web-site: “I have spoken to Harry and told him that I will only be considering him as a centre-half. I have played him at full-back in the past and that was to help us out and for him to get the experience of playing games last season.

“He is in the possession of the shirt at the moment and he has to play well to stay in the team. If he doesn’t and loses form then he will lose his place. It’s the same with Mark (Ellis) or any other player and they know that.

“At the moment we have three centre-halves going for the two places and it is the same up front and at full-back. That is what I wanted to create.”
