Boss On Max's Award

Davis full of praise for his young forward

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has heaped praise on Max Clayton after the young forward was named Football League Young Player of the Month for August.

The 18-year-old impressed in his first month where he was regularly starting games in the Crewe first-team and Davis admits that he has been impressed with the way Max has coped with the adjustment to starting games for the Alex.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I am delighted for Max and delighted that his performances and what he has contributed to the team has been recognised. He is a young player who is just starting to get some games and he is progressing well.

“As coaches and managers we are pleased when we see our players picking up these kind of awards, because it is a reward for all the hard we have put in as well.

“But he is a good lad who is very easy to work with. He wants to improve all the time and knows that he has to improve certain areas of the game. He has got his feet firmly on the ground and comes from a really good family.

“He will undoubtedly become a top player, but at the moment he wants to do well for Crewe. He wants to get the club as high up the league as he can and score some goals in the process. There is no real pressure on him but he is in the spotlight at the moment. But he keeps with it well.”
