Former Alex returns to club on loan
Crewe Alexandra are delighted to announce the signing of Colchester United midfielder Andy Bond. The 27-year-old has agreed an initial one-month loan with the Alex, and will go straight in to the squad for tomorrow’s trip to MK Dons.
Of course Bond is a familiar face with the club after coming up through the Academy at Reaseheath. Unfortunately for the Wigan based midfielder he would never get his first-team break with the Alex and would move in to the non-league with Barrow where he would play alongside the likes of Adam Dugdale and Alan Martin.
Bond’s impressive form with Barrow saw him help the club to promotion and he capped off his spell there by helping the Holker Street Stadium side to victory in the FA Trophy final. His eye-catching displays and his impressive goal-scoring figures soon alerted several Football League clubs and Bond made the switch to Colchester United in the summer of 2010.
His first season saw him score 8 times for the U’s and he followed it up with a further four goals the following season, including a goal against the Railwaymen in Colchester’s 4-1 win over the Alex in the F.A. Cup.
But after finding himself out of favour following a managerial change at Colchester, Bond’s availability became known to the Alex managerial team who swooped to sign the midfielder on a loan deal until October 28th.
The deal is subject to Football League approval, and Alex fans will be able to see an interview with Andy later this afternoon.
