AJ: "We Need To Be Clinical"

20 September 2012

AJ pleased with recent form but says there is still room for improvement

AJ Leitch-Smith says he has been reasonably pleased with his own personal start to the season, but the Crewe-born youngster admits that if the team had been more clinical in front of goal then the Railwaymen could have comfortably been in the top half of the table. Leitch-Smith has netted four times already, which included a quick-fire brace against Stevenage recently,  as Crewe drew 2-2 at the Lamex Stadium. He also hit the underside of the crossbar in Tuesday's goalless draw at Carlisle.

The Alex striker told the club’s official web-site: “We have been able to get on a little run and credit to the defence because they have not conceded too many goals. We have been tight at the back and if we had been more clinical then we could possibly have picked up more points than we have done.

“Saying that we have had some decent results against a lot of the top teams so we cannot complain too much. Now we have to build on our unbeaten run and try our best to win at home on Saturday.

“The standard is higher in this league and every game is tough. Leyton Orient are on a great run themselves so we know it is going to be difficult. That is the major difference between the two divisions you have to play really well to get results.

“I have been reasonably pleased with the way it has gone for me so far. I have played in every game and scored four goals. I could have had some more as well because this team is always going to create chances. We just have to be a bit more clinical.”
