A Frustrating Spell

20 September 2012

Matt Tootle is glad to be back at in an Alex shirt

Crewe Alexandra’s Matt Tootle admits it is a welcome to relief to be back in the first-team after making a return to the starting line up in Crewe’s 0-0 draw with Carlisle United on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old replaced the suspended Chuks Aneke and produced an impressive display in what is still an unfamiliar position in midfield. While ‘Toots’ was happy with general performance he still feels there is room for improvement.

But Toots is just glad to be back in the Crewe first-team after a frustrating spell on the side-lines during pre-season which saw him miss the opening weeks of the campaign. Now Toots is targeting building up his fitness over the coming weeks and retaining his place.

Toots told Crewe Alex Player: “It is really good to be back and get my face back in to be honest. It has been a tough time and a frustrating time. I have had a few down moments and had a fell out with the physios a few times but it is good to be back now.

“I’ll play wherever they want to play me at the moment because there are a number of positions that I could play, and at the moment it is about getting back in to the team.

“I want to prove to everyone that I can play on the wing on a regular basis, but I generally don’t mind where I play at the moment. It is just good to get the shackles off.”
