Steve says Dean Smith has much improved the Saddlers
Steve Davis has been suitably impressed by the job conducted by Dean Smith at Walsall this season. Davis takes his Alex side to the Bescot Stadium looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth. Walsall also suffered a 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury in front of the Sky cameras and although the Saddlers were beaten, Davis was suitably impressed by their performance.
Ahead of the trip to the Bescot Stadium, Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Dean has done a really good job at Walsall and they have improved. They play some really good football because they have good footballers there.
“It will be a tough game. I know I say that every Friday ahead of a game but it is the truth. They are all tough and Walsall are a good side. They were really unlucky not to have beaten Shrewsbury. I thought they were the better side and created some chances.
“Shrewsbury rode their luck a bit and nicked the game. Walsall made a flying start to the season and were right up there. They are still playing well but have not picked up the results and that can happen in this league.
“They haven’t won in four games, so they will be wanting to do well in front of their home supporters. We have to be ready for the way they are going to start. We weren’t at Portsmouth and it cost us dearly.
He added: “We have to be much better prepared.”
