Steve: "We Didn't Start Well Enough"

Boss gives us his reaction from Fratton Park

Boss Steve Davis was left a frustrated man after his side slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth this afternoon. Two early goals, first from Wes Thomas and then an Izale McLeod penalty were enough to give Pompey the win.

Davis felt his players didn’t do themselves justice in the first-half, and while he was more impressed with their performance in the second period, he was left disappointed with several decisions from the referee which didn’t go his side’s way.

Speaking after the game, Steve said: “I had a little go at the players at half time because we just didn’t start the game well enough. We normally start games a good tempo and we didn’t today.

“I didn’t feel it was a penalty. Andy stuck his foot out, but didn’t make any contact, and that was one of many decisions that the officials got wrong for both teams. But the penalty cost us, because at 1-0 it makes it a lot harder.

“The lads came out and did better in the second half. I sent them out to restore a bit of pride, and that is what they did without really creating any clear cut oppurtunities to rescue something from the game.”
