Alex boss left bitterly disappointed after 2-0 loss

Boss Steve Davis was left bitterly disappointed after Crewe slipped to back-to-back league defeats for the first time under his watch following a 2-0 to Oldham Athletic at Gresty Road.

It was a tough night for the Alex who struggled to contain the impressive Latics, who earned their win thanks to second-half goals  from James Tarkowski  and Matt Derbyshire.

Speaking after the game, Davis refused to make excuses for the defeat. Steve told crewealex.net: “We got what we deserved; we weren’t at the top of our game. You can’t afford to carry players at any level and that’s what we did tonight.

“Silly mistakes cost us for the goals, but we didn’t create enough either. Credit must go to Oldham though because they worked very hard for their manager and we couldn’t live with them at all tonight.

“We haven’t had that sort of performance at home since I took over. I was looking for some characters. It was a big test for the boys tonight and not enough of them came through.

“It was one of those nights where we couldn’t get going. I can always make excuses to mask the performance, but I’m not going to do that. The players that I put out were good enough to get a result.”
