No Need To Panic

Boss backs his front four to come good

In the absence of the injured AJ Leitch-Smith, Steve Davis will put his faith in his four forwards but has called upon those strikers to start converting chances. Davis says there is no need to panic after Leitch-Smith picked up ankle ligament damage during the first-half of the club’s 2-0 defeat to Portsmouth at the weekend, but with Byron Moore returning from injury in the same game, the Crewe boss feels he has enough firepower to cope at the moment.

Davis has challenged the likes of Moore to open his account for the season, with his last senior goal coming at Wembley in May’s Play-Off Final.

Steve told the club’s official web-site:  “We will miss AJ because he has looked dangerous but we have enough to cope with his loss. There is no panic. We have Chuks, who can score goals, Pogs and Max Clayton.

“Byron is now back with us and has goals in his game. He is due a goal. Therefore we are not desperately short although we are not scoring enough goals and confidence is a bit low. We have to pick them up.

“We just have to try to improve as a team and they are working hard to do that.”
