Boss says Moore getting back on goal trail will only boost confidence

Steve Davis is hoping that the first goals of the season from Byron Moore will now inspire the winger to hit double figures again this season. Moore scored his first competitive goals since the Wembley Play-Off Final in May to seal a fine 2-1 win over Swindon Town on Tuesday night and the Alex boss believes that Moore’s match winning display will restore some real confidence in his play.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I was pleased that Bryon got his first goals of the season on Tuesday and they were two great finishes. His first one saw him get in at the far post and we have been on at him for years to do that.

“The second one he has kept calm and dinked it over the goalkeeper and hopefully those fine finishes with give him confidence. He got into double figures last season in League Two and now he has to try and do that in a higher league.

“If he wants to move up and play in the Championship or for one of the bigger clubs at our level, then he has got to be creating and scoring goals. I want him to score goals for us and put us where we want to be. I don’t want us to be in the bottom half and I want three or four players getting into the double figures for the season to make sure we aren’t.

He added: “Chuks looks like he will chip in. Max has shown that he can score goals but we cannot be relying on an 18-year-old to be the main goalscorer for us. Pogbs has started well but could score a few more and now Byron is off the mark, so we have to keep that going and share the goals around.”
