Colclough on signing his first pro contract
Teenager Ryan Colclough has told the club’s official web-site of his delight in signing his first professional contract with the Football Club. The form of the 17-year-old in the club’s development squads and in-and-around the first-team has seen him rewarded with a professional contact that will take him through to the summer of 2015.
After scoring three goals for the Under-21s this season, Colclough forced his way into the first team and made his senior debut as a substitute against Leyton Orient in September. He then suffered a fractured jaw in the club’s 1-0 defeat at MK Dons when caught by Darren Potter, thus ruling him of action since.
Manager Steve Davis has been impressed with Colclough’s ability and attitude and firmly believes that he is another Crewe youngster with a bright future.
On signing his pro contract, Ryan said: “I am delighted to have been offered my first professional contract and couldn’t wait to sign it. The manager came to me and said that I had been doing well and that I had earned the deal. It is nice to hear those types of things from the manager and for the club to make me the offer.
“I was pleased with the way things were going for me before I was injured at the MK Dons. I had been training with the first-team for a while and had been doing well for the Under-21s and scoring some goals, but to make my debut so early was everything you work towards.
Ryan added: “I had a taste of it in a couple of games, but unfortunately broke my jaw in my second game. It was disappointing because I was enjoying it and wanted to play in as many first-team games as I could. It was a set-back, but my latest scan has been positive and I hope to make a return to training in the next few weeks. I just cannot wait to get going again and to sign the contract has given me a lift too.”
