Davis says Clayton goal will restore confidence

Steve Davis has told crewealex.net that Max Clayton’s first goal in just over a month at Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night will be just the tonic he needs to get himself going again.

Clayton’s superbly taken winner in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy not only fired the Railwaymen into the area quarter-final, but also ended a run of seven goals without a goal for the talented 18-year-old.

Davis was delighted with the teenager and knew that the goals would flow again: “It was a super finish from Max after some good composure from Pogs.

“The goal will really help him because he has gone a month or so without one. He has become anxious and perhaps trying too hard because he wants to score goals for the team.

“His attitude is first class and we have just pulled him aside and told him to keep playing his own goal and that the goals would come again. He has been a bit uptight about not scoring so this goal will be a great help to him and restore some confidence.”
