Davis: "Our Own Will Have A Chance"

16 October 2012

Boss not to consider a loan forward at the moment

Despite losing one of his forward players, AJ Leitch-Smith, for up to four weeks with ankle ligament damage, Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says he will resist the temptation to re-enter the loan market for a replacement. For the time being at least, Davis is placing faith in his own forwards and wants to give them every opportunity to prove that they can score the goals we will need to collect points and move up the npower League One table.

The Alex boss is concerned with our lack of goals so far this season but expects the likes of Mathias Pogba, youngster Max Clayton and a fit-again Bryon Moore to start to convert the chances we are creating.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I have thought about bringing someone else in. I have been thinking about it over the last couple of weeks but I want to give our own players a chance. We are still creating chances and the players here know that we have to start putting a few of them away.

“We have had a few blanks this season where we haven’t scored but I have confidence and belief in the players we have here. That is the Crewe way and we give our players a chance. They are young and you have to stick with them sometimes.

“They will have an opportunity to put things right and sometimes you have to be patient. Of course, it won’t go on forever and we are always assessing things. We have Walsall this weekend and then two home games, so we may re-look at things after the Yeovil game if we don’t improve.”
