Comeback To Restore Some Confidence

22 October 2012

Boss says his players have to take fighting spirit into next two home games

Steve Davis says his team will look to take the positives from Saturday’s comeback at Walsall. Crewe found themselves 2-0 down again before the half an hour mark but fought back gallantly to seal a point thanks to Luke Murphy’s wicked free-kick delivery and Chuks Aneke’s stoppage time header. Davis was once again annoyed by his team’s slow start but praised his team for their fighting spirit at the Bescot Stadium.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I think we can look at Saturday’s game and take the positives from it. I thought we were exceptional in the second half and the substitutes made a difference. We didn’t cause them enough problems but they kept themselves going and go their reward in the end.

“The first 20 minutes were nowhere near the standard we have set ourselves but we got going towards the end of the first half and carried that on into the second half. We recovered well from conceding those early goals and the players deserve great credit for that.

“There is a good spirit among them and they have shown that they can fight to get back into the game, and they deserved the point. Hopefully, coming back in that manner will help with the confidence and we can take that into our two home games against Swindon and Yeovil.”
