Club Keen To Extend Martin Stay

16 October 2012

Boss on his current number one

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he is eager to tie up goalkeeper Alan Martin on a new contract. Martin’s current deal runs out in the New Year and Davis says that the popular Scot has earned an extension after an impressive start to the season.

With the experienced Steve Phillips ruled out for the beginning of the season with a knee injury, Martin has grabbed his chance with both hands and is in possession of the number one shirt. Phillips is now back from injury and will apply added pressure on Martin, but Davis is keen to have two goalkeepers fighting it out for the number one spot.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I have spoken to Alan and let him know that we are keen for him to stay here. I’m sure we will talk again and consider the length of the deal and the finer details but he knows that we want him to extend his time here.

“He has done extremely well. He has applied himself since our chat at the end of last season and deserves his place in the team at the moment.”
