Davis to place faith in young Ollie

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has hinted towards handing young Oliver Turton his senior debut for the club against Yeovil Town tomorrow.

Turton remains on stand-by if the more senior Abdul Osman fails to shake off a troublesome ankle injury. With the on-loan Andy Bond also struggling with a groin strain, the door of opportunity could open for Crewe’s latest Academy graduate.

Turton has been on the fringes of the first team squad since making his first appearance on the final home game of the 2010/11 season against Stockport County.

Steve told crewealex.net: “It was a blow for us to lose Abdul at half-time and we thought about doing one or two things, but in the end, we thought Ollie would be the best man for the job we needed.

“It is only fair that he got his chance and we threw him in a bit against a difficult opponent but he was fine. He played a lot better than he has done when coming on previously and that shows the progress he has made.

“It may be that he gets another chance this weekend and it is up to him to take it.”
