Steve targets two after Cup weekend

Steve Davis, the Crewe Alexandra manager is still searching for reinforcements in midfield and attack as he aims to bolster his options. The Alex boss is hoping to have Abdul Osman and Max Clayton available again for selection for this weekend’s FA Cup tie with Wycombe Wanderers but he would still like to add to his squad ahead of a busy month.

One such option suggested has been a loan deal for our former striker Ryan Lowe, currently at MK Dons, but the Crewe boss is still to discuss his availability with his counterpart at the MK Dons Karl Robinson.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We have made enquiries and a few have come back to us. The games we are watching are Under-21 games and they are the players that are being thrown at us most of the time. It is not easy.

“Although there are some over-aged players involved, it is difficult to attract them on the wages we can offer. A of them are keen to stay put and fight for their place.

“With the younger ones, the good thing is that they often let them out for nothing just so they get experienced. The experienced players are not so forthcoming.

“We are continuing to watch games and we are sending other scouts out as well, and our phones our busy. I'd like to bring someone in this week to work with the players, even though they won't play in the FA Cup because it is hard to get permission.

“We are looking from an attacking perspective, a forward, and a central midfielder, in the holding role. Those are the areas we have identified.”
