Alex boss gives us his reaction after FA Cup win

Boss Steve Davis has praised the spirit of his players after they came from a goal down to record a comfortable 4-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers in the First Round of the F.A. Cup.

An early Matt Spring strike for Wycombe was cancelled out by first-half goals from Mathias Pogba and Mark Ellis, before spectacular second-half goals from Chuks Aneke and Luke Murphy secured a place in the next round for the Railwaymen.

Speaking to crewealex.net after the game, Davis was a happy man: “We didn’t start the game particularly well again. We were a little nervy and it took us a little time to get going and we went a goal behind from another mistake but the boys showed character to get back in the game again.

“I was pleased for Pogs to get a goal. He found himself in a good position to help it in to the net, but you have to get in to those positions. Then Mark has scored a similar goal. We kept him up for the throw and it paid off. He is a goal scoring centre-half and it was good to see him score.

“But at half-time I was pleased to get them in because I felt we needed to get them going. Credit to the boys because that is what they did and they started the second-half with a real tempo and it could have ended in a more comfortable win.”

On the two spectacular goals from Murphy and Aneke, Steve added: “Chuks gets some criticism from because of the way he plays, but he is got terrific quality and you saw that with his goal today.

“When Murph got in that situation, there was only one thought in my mind. They were both great goals and I will always encourage them to keep having a go.”

Davis is now hoping his side can take the confidence from the win in to Tuesday’s tough game at Doncaster Rovers: “Hopefully now the boys can bounce in to the game on Tuesday night with real confidence. We will have a real go at Doncaster, and we are definitely capable of winning anywhere if we play at our best.”
