Steve praises Rob Sharp and his team for getting players back fitter and quicker
Steve Davis has praised the hard work of his medical and fitness staff in their attempts to get players back onto the training ground quicker than expected. The Alex boss says he has 21 players fit at the moment, with only AJ Leitch-Smith (ankle ligament) classed as anything long-term. Kelvin Mellor, Michael West, Max Clayton and Ryan Colclough have all made significant progress this week.
The Alex boss is hoping to have as many players as possible fit and ready for a busy period of fixtures, when you include the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, the FA Cup and the Under-21s fixtures.
Davis has not had the chance to have everyone fit and available at the same time this season and he says that is not for the want of trying from our head physio Rob Sharp and his team.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We are getting there, to having everyone back fit. The treatment room is looking better and it would be nice to have everyone fit at the same time. We haven’t had that this season.
“We get one back and then lose one and it has been like that this season, but we haven’t moaned about it. It is part of football and we have just gone and got on with it. We have been able to bring in a couple of loan players that have helped us and some of the younger ones have stepped up to the first-team squad like Ryan Colclough and Billy Waters because we have been short of numbers at times.
“Rob has worked very hard in getting players back. He deserves a lot of credit for that. He keeps getting them back out there and has a great record of doing that since he came to the club. He is doing a great job in there, as our all his staff.”
