Goalkeeper announces Charity diary dates for 2013

Steve Phillips, the Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper and development coach, is in training to complete a London-to-Paris bike ride in June to help raise money for Leukaemia Myeloid research and the Caudwell Children’s Charity.

Phillips helped raise close to £8,000 last season for the Immy Shimmy Appeal and the determined Bristolian has already planned some great fundraising nights to raise more money for two really worthy causes.

Phillips, with the help of the Football Club, the Crewe ASi supporters group, the Alexandra Soccer centre and numerous other people and groups prepared to give up their time, are now focussing on hosting some great nights for supporters.

There will be a grand opening on January 19th when our former player Geoff Thomas will be attendance to launch the charity fund raising, Easter bingo, a race night (hopefully!), the players awards night and auction, a golf day involving members of the first-team squad and a night with our former captain Bob Scott!

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I can’t thank everyone who was involved enough for what they did and what we raised for Immy and her family last year. The generosity was unbelievable and you helped change that little girl’s life. The family have been able to buy a caravan and have taken her on numerous trips without having to worry too much about money. Everyone should feel really proud of what we managed to achieve.

“I am now trying to raise money for two really worthy causes, Leukaemia Research and the Caudwell Children’s Charity. I am in training for the London-To-Paris bike ride and I can tell you it is hard!

“In the build-up to that we are going to be hosting a number of fund raising events starting with the grand opening on January 19th when Geoff will be back at the club and the band ‘The Sway’ will be playing in the Carlsberg Lounge. We also have one of the best Elvis impersonators around.

“We have also pencilled in an Easter Bingo night, the Player Awards night and auction and a Golf Day on 30th April at Crewe Golf Club in Haslington, when members of the first-team squad will be involved. It should be a great day.

“We then have a night with the legend Bob Scott on 24th May. That should be another great night for the supporters and the aim is make as much money as we can.”
