Martin is currently keeping the vastly experienced Steve Phillips out of the side and Baker has revealed that progress has been made.

Neil told crewealex.net:  “Steve (Davis) has spoken with Alan’s agent and it has been encouraging. I expect there will be some good news next week in regards to his contract. We are hoping that will be resolved shown.

“Alan has come in and shown some great form but we knew he was a good goalkeeper because we had seen him for the reserves and in training. He has come in with a great attitude and he needed to because Steve Phillips is a very good and experienced goalkeeper. “
