"It Was A Great Night"

James Collins gives us his verdict on a thrilling Youth Cup tie

Collins and fellow manager Neil Critchley were obviously disappointed to concede three goals at home, especially with two of the equalisers barely coming a minute after we had scored ourselves, but it made for a hugely entertaining encounter in front of a healthy crowd of 584. Joint Academy manager James Collins praised the club’s youth team after they finally emerged victorious from a topsy-turvy tie with a spirited Scunthorpe United last night. The Alex youngsters ended up winning 5-3 after having to take the lead four times on the night!

“It was a great night and I hope the supporters who came enjoyed it. I enjoyed it most of the time! After the 5-3 win, James told the club’s official web-site:

“I thought we played some really good football and there were some really fabulous goals as well. We made some mistakes and have conceded three goals at home but that is what kids do. We have conceded two just after we have scored and another barely a minute into the second half, but that is a learning curve for them.

“We were a bit tough on them afterwards because if they want to go and play in the first-team then they have to cut those types of mistakes out, but I’m sure they had an enjoyable night and enjoyed it.

“The goals were fabulous and the boys got their rewards because we do practice shooting with both feet. It paid off for them tonight.”
