Mellor awaiting scan results, AJ and West Making Progress

Versatile defender Kelvin Mellor underwent a scan on his injured knee yesterday and the club are awaiting the results of that scan before deciding on the next course of action. Mellor may have suffered some slight ligament damage to the knee but he is not expected to be ruled out of training for too much longer.

Crewe have welcomed Michael West back to full-time training and he could be involved in one of the forthcoming cup ties against either Burton Albion in the FA Cup or Doncaster Rovers in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

AJ Leitch-Smith is expected to resume full training later this week, but the two cup encounters will come around too quickly for him and he will be slowly introduced to game time, most probably in the Under-21s.

Leitch-Smith suffered an ankle ligament injury after being caught by Portsmouth midfielder Brian Howard.

Steve told the club’s official web-site:“Kelvin underwent his scan last week and we are awaiting the results of his scan before deciding on our next course of action.

“Michael is back with is but we will be very cautious with him, so he doesn’t suffer a set-back or breaks down again. He is progressing well and could be included on the bench on Saturday.

“AJ is also making progress and we hope he will train with us later this week. He had a nasty injury at Portsmouth and those ligament injuries can take a bit of time. He has been running and twisting and turning and it is just a question of when he can re-join the group.”
