Alex boss on Youth Cup success

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has heaped praise on the Youth Team after their 2-1 F.A. Youth Cup First Round win over Carlisle United on Wednesday night.

Several players impressed Davis during the game in which goals from Brandon Moores and Billy Waters sent Crewe through and set up a second-round tie with Scunthorpe United.

Davis felt Waters was the most eye-catching of the Alex side and hinted that the 18-year-old could be named amongst the Crewe substitutes for their F.A. Cup tie with Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow afternoon.

Generally though, Davis was impressed with the performance: “I was impressed the boys against Carlisle. They played through the units very well, and I thought there were some outstanding performances in there.

“The outstanding player was Billy, but he didn’t do anything that I thought he wouldn’t do. We know what we can do and he scored a good goal and bossed the game in the middle of the park. There were other good performances though and they have definitely given us something to think about.”
