Steve: "That's How I Want Us To Play"

8 December 2012

Steve Davis gives us his reaction after a superb 3-1 win at Preston

Steve said: "We have agreed to extend Lauri's loan for another month. He wants to stay here, he is enjoying it and he wants to play as much as he can. He is a great lad around the dressing room. He has great energy around the place and has shown that he is a good player. Having him here with us, just gives a bit more time with AJ and Max has only just come back, it means we are in no rush with them."

The boss also revealed that Laui Dalla Valle will extend his loan deal with us from Fulham next week. He missed today's game with a foot injury but still travelled to watch the lads, along with Steve Phillips, Michale West, and the suspended Matt Tootle.

"Brad and Murphy broke through for their well taken goals and then Pogs has bundled one in at the far post after a good move and cross. He deserved that. The players adjusted well to the change we made and today it worked well. They have to adapt to formations and there is still room for improvement. We won't get carried away. It was a good day but we will keep a level head and continue to work hard."

"I thought they were all excellent though and I don't have enough words to describe how pleased I was with them. Ollie Turton was excellent at right wing back as he is only just 20 and not played too many games. He wasn't fazed by it and that is what I'm trying to create here. I want the players to come to places like this and play like that. I want them to get the ball down and play and link up and then defend like warriors and defend when they need to. They did that here and I was delighted and proud of the performance.

"We wanted them to be taken by surprise and I think it took them as bit of time to work us out. It worked and the players were terrific. The link up play and combination play was good. Abdul was terrific in screening the defence and we were looking for Murph and Brad to run on beyond their back four and they both scored their goals doing that.

After an impressive 3-1 win, Steve told the club's official web-site: "That was probably our best away performance of the season with the way we played and especially as we changed the shape as well. We played for three centre-halves and that is not like Crewe but we wanted to take them by surprise a bit today and I think we did that.
Crewe led 1-0 at the break, thanks to Murphy's well-taken finish from Inman's pass and then the two complimented each other again, with Murphy setting Inman free on goal minutes into the second half.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis celebrated signing his new contract with the club with a superb 3-1 win over Preston North End at Deepdale. The Alex boss was delighted with his side's performance and well taken goals from his two impressive midfield players Luke Murphy and Brad Inman.
