Boss hails the return of Leitch-Smith
Crewe boss Steve Davis says the return of Ajay Leitch-Smith will be like a new signing for his squad. The 22-year-old forward has been on the sidelines since the beginning of October after suffering an ankle injury at Portsmouth but is now close to a return.
Leitch-Smith has stepped up his rehabilitation over the past few weeks and returned to training last week, although Davis expects it to be a while before he considers the forward for selection.
But he is delighted to be able to welcome him back in to full-training and says it will add real competition for places in his squad.
Steve told Crewe Alex Player: “It's like a new signing and it will give us even more competition up front. Lauri Dalla Valle has come in and done well and Max Clayton is looking very sharp in training.
“Ajay has been out for nine weeks so he'll need to build his fitness up, but it's great to see him back running around in training.
"But at this time of year we have a lot of games in a short space of time and you can't leave yourselves short. It's good to have a lot of options so we can change things if we need to."
