Davis looks for his side to bounce back against Doncaster

Steve Davis says his Crewe side have the perfect opportunity to put Saturday’s disappointing FA Cup exit to Burton Albion behind them when they take on Dean Saunders’ Doncaster Rovers side at Gresty Road. The two in-form teams from last month meet in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Quarter-Final of the Northern Section and Davis is hopeful that his team can bounce back from Saturday 1-0 defeat.

Davis although pleased with the possession his side enjoyed against Burton, he said his side lacked that little bit of quality to open up Gary Rowett’s side.

Steve told the club’s official web-site:  “It was hugely disappointing to go out of the FA Cup because we wanted to progress and be in that draw on Sunday. Having watching the game again and then again we did dominate the possession and created chances but we lacked that little bit of quality in the final third, especially from our front four.

“Burton scored that early goal and again we have conceded early and it is difficult to break a team down when they get 10 men behind the ball and defend. To their credit they defended very well and made it difficult. If we would have equalised I think we would have gone on to win the game.

“They did really well because they defended for 85, 90 minutes and that isn’t easy. They were hard to break down and we didn’t show enough quality.

He added: “That is gone now and there is nothing we can do about it. We are out of the FA Cup and we can’t change it. Now we have to pick ourselves up and we have the opportunity to do just that against Doncaster on Tuesday night.”
