Steve Sorry To Fans

25 August 2012

Boss hurting after heavy defeat

Steve Davis says his side saw a different side to him after what he described as the worst performance under his reign as manager.  Uncharacteristically, Crewe never got going in the first half an hour and found themselves 2-0 down. A third goal just before the break made it almost mission impossible and despite another goal from Pogba, the Alex conceded a further two late goals to a vibrant Brentford side, who recorded their first three points of the season.

After the 5-1 drubbing, boss Steve Davis told “It was a torrid afternoon for us and I am embarrassed by the result and the performance. I must apologise to our crowd who had to watch that and if I was in there I would have probably left at half-time we were that poor.

“We never got going in the first half and I sensed it in the warm-up. There was too much strolling around and not preparing properly and I told them if they do that then they take it into the game. We couldn’t keep the ball and our defending was poor. I am not talking about one or two, I’m taking about the whole team.

“We had to play for pride in the second half and we had a go at them at the break to try and get them going. We managed to get one back and if we had managed to get another then it could have changed the reflection of the game, but we couldn’t. We the conceded two late goals with a free header and a deflected goal and the team have to take responsibility for that as  a whole.

“If I could have changed all 11 of them at half-time I would have done it but I left them out so they experience it. We are not going to shelter them. They need to be out there going through a situation like this to learn from it. I am hurting today and when I am hurting I come out fighting.

“The players know how to react and show some pride because they let the Football Club down today.”
