U21 Report | Crewe Alex 0-2 Birmingham City

31 October 2022

  • Crewe's four game unbeaten run comes to an end
  • Four trialists given an opportunity to impress
  • Billington captains young Railwaymen side for consecutive game

Two first-half goals from Remi Walker and Morgan Dance cemented the three points for Birmingham City's Under-21s at Alexandra Park.

Only two points seperated the two sides ahead of the Professional Development League fixtue, but Walker's wonderful strike from the edge of the penalty area gave City an early advantage.

Crewe's Trialist B and Billington had opportunities before Birmingham's opener which weren't powerful enough to test Bradley Mayo in the away side's goal.

Searching for an equaliser, Trialist C expertly rounded Mayo and his effort was inches away from crossing line but for a last ditched clearance from the defender.

However, it was the Blues who were able to double their lead moments before the half-time whistle with Dance flicking the ball into the back of the net from close-range.

Jackson made a substitution at half-time as Lucas Sant replaced Harvey Washington who completed minutes for the Under-18s at the weekend.

Further changes followed with the Alex looking for a way back into the game with Trialist D and Max Woodcock featuring for Trialist C and Harrison Bebbington.

Woodcock was instantly involved as Trialist B's trickery reward him with a shot at goal, which fell to the former, but again the effort was blocked as it was flying towards the bottom corner.

Trialist B, who was a real mennace all afternoon almost found a way back into the game for the Alex. His superb strike with the laces of his left boot clipped the middle of the crossbar before being diverted away from goal.

Crewe: Flint, Bhatti, Trialist A, Washington (Sant 45), Billington, Webster, Bebbington (Woodcock 55), Lunt, Agius, Trialist B (Martins 83), Trialist C (Trialist D 55).
