U21 Report | Hull 3 Crewe 6

4 October 2022

Crewe Alexandra Under-21s hit Hull City for six as they picked up their first victory of the season in the Professional Development League.

Goals from Connor Evans (2), Joel Tabiner, Charlie Finney, Matus Holicek and Owen Lunt earned a 6-3 victory in East Yorkshire on Monday evening.

Michael Jackson’s men twice fell behind but showed great spirit to fight back and take the game away from their hosts.

The success has lifted the U21s to seventh in the North Division standings, with a win and three draws from their six outings so far.

Jim Simms gave Hull the lead inside three minutes, but Finney found the bottom corner on nine minutes to make it 1-1.

Will Jarvis restored City’s advantage on 13 minutes, but again Crewe responded and squared things up thanks to an Evans header on 27 minutes.

And The Railwaymen took a 3-2 lead into the interval when Tabiner’s deflected shot deceived the home keeper and nestled in the net.

Alfie Taylor headed a Hull equaliser soon after the restart, but parity didn’t last long because Evans slotted home a penalty on 53 minutes.

A slick move, rounded off by Holicek, gave Crewe a two-goal cushion on 67 minutes, and Dave Richards made some super saves to protect that advantage.

The win was secured in the closing stages when Lunt tucked home following good work by Max Woodcock.

Hull’s misery was compounded when they had a man sent off in injury time.
