- Oliver Finney at the double in comeback win
- Connor Evans also on target with a header
- First victory in four outings for Under-21s
A second-half brace from Oliver Finney inspired a Crewe Alexandra Under-21s fight-back to victory over Barnsley.
The young Tykes led 1-0 at the break thanks to a Theo Chapman strike at Alexandra Park.
But Finney sparked a revival with a leveller soon after the restart, and he struck again with 10 minutes remaining.
Connor Evans completed a 3-1 success with a neat header as the clock ticked down.
It was a first win in four for Mike Jackson’s side, and saw them leapfrog Barnsley in the Professional Development League North table.
Jackson named a strong side which featured the likes of Dave Richards, Rio Adebisi and Joel Tabiner.
And Crewe created the better of the first-half chances, with Matus Holicek, Adebisi and Finney all going close.
But on 42 minutes Chapman was allowed space in the area and slotted home to give Barnsley the advantage.
It didn’t last long. On 53 minutes Finney anticipated nicely to nod home after a Regan Griffiths header came back off the bar.
Khanya Leshabela dragged an effort just wide before the hour mark, while at the other end a super block from Lewis Billington prevented Josh McKay from restoring the visitors’ lead.
Finney gave the Alex a deserved lead on 80 minutes when he threw himself at Adebisi’s cross and found the back of the net.
And Evans wrapped it up with a near-replica, meeting an Adebisi cross with a deft header to complete the scoring.
Crewe: Richards, Bhatti, Billington, Washington, Adebisi, Tabiner (Sant), Griffiths, Leshabela, Holicek, Finney, Evans (Allport).
