Crewe Alexandra Under 18s stormed into a three goal lead to eventually defeat Hull City 3-2 at Reaseheath.
A brace from Malachi Linton & one on the stroke of half-time from Joe Robbins had Crewe 3-0 at half-time before the Tigers fought back in the second period to make a game of it.
Linton put Crewe ahead from the penalty spot in the seventh minute, firing past the outstretched keeper after Robbins was brought down in the box.
His & the Alex's second came with just 14 minutes on the clock. Nathan Woodthorpe played a delightful through ball & Linton rounded the goalkeeper before keeping his composure to steer into a net guarded by two defenders.
Robbins scored the goal of the game a minute shy of half time, drilling a low left-footed first time effort from 20-yards into the bottom corner with superb technique.
It seemed as though the second half would be a matter of cruise control & seeing out proceedings for the Alex, but the Tigers didn't give up.
They hit back after the break with a classic counter-attacking goal, the winger cutting inside at pace & firing into the far corner.
Crewe nerves then started to jangle when Hull made it 3-2, the same winger cutting inside from the left again to score what was almost a replica of his first strike.
Faced with a now buoyant side, Crewe had to regain their focus & did just that, tightening up at the back & seeing the game through to record all three points.
