An injury hit Crewe Alexandra Under 18s suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Barnsley at Reaseheath.
The Tykes took the lead from close range in the first half, a low ball being played in from the left for the big number nine to cushion home first time from the edge of the six-yard-box.
Crewe responded ten minutes after the interval, Joe Robbins swinging a cross over from the right, with the Barnsley keeper fumbling into the path of substitute Fenton Green to calmly stroke the loose ball home from ten yards.
But Barnsley won the game from a set-piece. The free-kick was located on the right touchline, not too far from the corner flag, & Crewe couldn't get a header on the delivery. It feel to the feet of the Tykes number eight who swiveled to fire low into the corner from six-yards.
