Crewe Alexandra will aim to build on a positive start to the season when Newport County visit Mornflake Stadium tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm).
Lee Bell’s men have picked up battling points against Mansfield and Swindon and they will be looking to record their first victory in front of home fans.
The Opposition
Newport have responded well to losing some key players over the summer and notched a bumper 4-0 win over Doncaster at the weekend.
That came on the back of a 3-1 success at the expense of League One side Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup, so confidence will be high.
The Gaffer
Graham Coughlan took over as Newport boss in October 2022, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club at the time close to the relegation zone.
The Irishman has also had spells in charge of Bristol Rovers and Mansfield Town, in addition to coaching Sheffield United Under-23s in 2021 alongside Darren Currie.
Fighting Talk
Lee Bell: "Newport were excellent against Doncaster. They played good football and looked to get in behind, so we know it will be a really tough game. Graham has had a turnaround of players and he is a good manager.”
Graham Coughlan: "It’s always a tough encounter when you go to Crewe, they are a technical team. I need to assess our energy levels and what we have to give at Crewe, but we are fit so we should be okay. I’ll ask the lads to go again"
Team news
Lee Bell has reported no new fresh concerns, but will still be without midfielder Charlie Colkett.
Newport striker Omar Bogle (quad) remains a doubt while central defender Declan Drysdale (hamstring) and forward Offrande Zanzala (knee) are on the long-term injury list.
Head-to-Head
Newport have won 15 of the clashes between the sides, while Crewe have won 13. A further 15 games have ended in draws.
Officials
Adam Herczeg has been appointed as referee. Assistant referees are Abbas Khan and Johnathon Bickerdike, while Jake Topp is fourth official.
