AJ Leitch-Smith is hopeful that his first goal for the club's first team will now be a launch pad for even more. Leitch-Smith, who was offered a 12-month deal at the end of the season after a successful loan spell at Curzon Ashton is now hoping to push on and earn himself a start in the not too distant future.
Leitch-Smith who was a regular goal-getter through the Academy system told Crewe Alex Player: "Of course, I am happy to be off the mark for the first team. Dario said to me when I was coming on to threaten the goal and to make some runs and that paid off with the goal.
"It is something I will always remember and I hope I can go on to become a goalscorer for Crewe. I want to be that player who can score goals and help the team win games.
"It is not every day you score your first goal for the first team and the team win 7-0, so it is something to cherish. The team were always positive because we know that Dario wants us to play football and try and win the right way.
"We knew the football would come through and I think we showed against Barnet what we are really capable of. We needed the result and the supporters needed it and it will give everyone confidence."
