Martin: 'Red card Has Knocked Me Back'

Posted on: Thu 11 Mar 2010

Carl Martin will be hoping to learn from experience following the first red card of his career against Grimsby Town on Tuesday evening. Martin had performed admirably after replacing injured left-back Matt Tootle just before half time but spoilt his night by receiving that late red card for a lunging tackle on Michael Leary.

Martin will now serve a three-match ban for violent conduct, starting with this weekend's trip to Torquay United.

"I'm very disappointed because it means I will miss the next few games. I was pleased with my performance until then, but I'm disappointed now that I'm not going to be involved.

"Basically, the ball got played back to me and I got closed down quickly by two players. I side stepped and tried to play forward but my second touch was too heavy and as I tried to slide play the ball it went into more of a slide tackle and we've ended up together and I got sent off.

"I have to take it, it's my first red card ever in my life and I never knew it would feel like this, but I have to accept it. It really has knocked the stuffing out of me, I love to be out on the pitch and I'd love to have been celebrating with the boys, but I feel instead that I've let them down a little bit and I'm disappointed in that too."
