Donaldson Aiming To Shoot Down Town

Posted on: Tue 09 Mar 2010

Clayton Donaldson is hoping his two-goal performance against Barnet will be the catalyst for him to finish the season in the team and in the goals. With Calvin Zola struggling to shake off some recent injuries, the door has re-opened for Donaldson and he certainly grabbed his opportunity at the weekend.

Now the former Hibs and Hull striker is hoping to cement his place in Dario Gradi's side against Grimsby.

Donaldson told the club's official web-site: "It was better to have come away with a point than with nothing on Saturday. That is one thing we can take from the game because we didn't play to our best.

"The first goal I scored was more my kind of goal, and the ones I'm more used to scoring to be honest. I've scored plenty of those in my time before, running in on goal with my pace, so I'm pleased with that. It's always nice to get on the score sheet and especially when you haven't scored for a while.

"The second goal was a team goal. Westy worked it well with Joel and it does show that when you practice things on the training pitch they can come off.

"I have been out of the side and I was disappointed, especially from a personal point of view because I want to play every game but I know that's not the case. There is always someone to take your place.

Clayts added: "I don't hold any grudges the lads have come in and done well and as long as the team picks up points that is what matters, I was happy to bide my time because I knew my chance would come again and hopefully I've took it."
