Billy Jones is hoping to get over last season's disappointment as quickly as possible and concentrate on doing a lot better in Coca-Cola League One. The left-back, who enjoyed a fairly consistent first season with the club before suffering a knee injury on Boxing Day, cannot wait to get back into pre-season training and hit the ground running.

Jones returned to action for the final game of the season against Oldham Athletic in what proved to be one of the worst performances in recent memory, but that aside, the likeable defender enjoyed his first season performing back at this level.

Talking exclusively to Crewe Alex World, Bill told us: "It was a long and tough season and I'm sure the players would have enjoyed the short break we had after the final game of the season - but for players like myself who missed nearly half the season, it is good to have a couple of weeks and then get back into the training again.

"I just want to use the summer months to get as fit as I possibly can. Part of my game is to get involved as much as I can and I have been told there is going to be quite a bit of work with the full-backs, so that's my main aim. I know that if I am fit and strong then I will have a good and successful season.

"We are all determined to put last season behind us. As a group of players we all want to do a lot better than we did last season, and personally it was tough for me. It was good at the start, but then to pick up the injury was so disappointing."
