George Abbey has told the club's official web-site that he agreed to sign a new two-year contract because he wants to play his football in League One and possibly higher in the future. The Nigerian told Steve Holland in the summer that he would end up forcing his way into his starting eleven and he has done just that. Now he is determined to make sure Crewe do not experience relegation on the final day of the season against Oldham Athletic.

George told crewealex.net: "I am delighted to have signed a new deal with the club. I have always said that I wanted to stay here but of course that decision is in the hands of the manager. I am delighted to have everything sorted out and it is nice to know that the manager has got faith in me.

"I just want to work hard and be a part of his plans because it is nice to think that a club like Crewe wanted me to stay. We know we have come up short this season, but there are still some good young players here and the facilities are good, so we will learn from our mistakes this season and that will help us improve for next season."

Of course, Abbey will be hoping that we will preparing for life in League One next season rather than the league below. If we can avoid defeat at home to Oldham tomorrow then our safety will be assured.

George told us: "I have never been relegated in my career before and I don't want to experience it for the first time tomorrow. It is the biggest match of my professional career but everyone is relaxed and focussed on getting the job done tomorrow.

"We are all in this together as a club and we all have a job to do. The management, the players, the staff and the supporters. The fans need to realise what a lift they give you out on the pitch when they get fully behind the players and they play a key role.

"In every single game I play I play the same way. I play to win and give 100% commitment. There is more at stake tomorrow, with our league status in jeopardy, but we know what needs to be done."
